Christmas at Belle Meade UMC
Christmas Eve Service Times

3 pm - Interactive Family Service (Sanctuary)

Our 3:00 PM service is an interactive family service perfect for kids of all ages! During the service, we will have bells for children to play, a children’s message, glow sticks, kid-friendly communion, and an interactive retelling of the Christmas story! Children are invited to dress up as wise men, shepherds, angels, etc., and offer their voices to proclaim the Christmas story. We provide the costumes; just show up around 2:30 PM to select your costume for a brief rehearsal! Following the service, we will enjoy cookies and cocoa together on the church lawn!

2:30: Call Time for All Children Participating in Interactive Nativity (Sanctuary Narthex)
3:00: Family Worship Service
3:45: Cookies and Cocoa (outside the Sanctuary)

10:30 am, 5:30 & 8:30 pm - Candlelight & Communion Services (Sanctuary)

Our 10:30 AM, 5:30 PM, and 8:30 PM services will feature music from the Belle Meade Choir, a sermon, communion, special instrumentalists, and candle lighting as we sing Silent Night. The 5:30 PM service will be live-streamed on Facebook, Youtube, and stream.bellemeadeumc.org.

Childcare for 0-3 years old is available at the 5:30 PM service with our background checked nursery staff. Your children are always welcome in the service. A white bookshelf is available in the narthex with worship items for kids, along with sensory bags. There is a nursing mother’s room off of the narthex with rocking chairs and a changing table.

Assisted hearing devices and large print bulletins are available at every service.

Advent Events

Dec 2: Tuesday Night Advent Study

Join Rev. MaryJane Pierce Norton on Dec 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 6:30-7:30 PM for an Advent Study on Zoom. “Dinner by Candlelight” will help us gather together, study the scripture, reflect on the sermon, and discuss the Advent lights of hope, peace, joy, and love. We will use the Weekly Worship Guide, plus short meditations emailed to you every Sunday afternoon during Advent. To participate in the class, register by Sunday, November 30 by emailing MaryJane at mnorton@nccumc.org or text to (615) 415-4104.

Dec 3 and 10: Wednesday Night Advent Gatherings

Join Rev. Sam McGlothlin, Rachel Hagewood, and Dr. Brian Sigmon for “Fireside Chats” on Wednesday Dec 3 and Dec 10 from 6:00-7:00 PM. We will start by gathering in front of the church around a fire with warm drinks and desserts! Around 6:30 PM, we will move to the Lounge for intergenerational sharing about Advent and Christmas. These gatherings are meant to be low key, fun, and a place to get to know each other! Email Pastor Sam with any questions, sam@bellemeadeumc.org.

Dec 7: Lessons and Carols, 10:30 am in the Sanctuary

Join us for one service at 10:30 am in the Sanctuary for our traditional Festival of Lessons and Carols. Instrumentalists, singers, and readers from across our church family will participate in this much-loved church-wide event!

Dec 7: Merry Missions, 11:30 am in the Fellowship Hall

Join us for a fun, hands-on mission experience for the whole family! This event will serve as the kick-off for our Christmas season of service. As part of our kick-off, we invite you to collect items for our various mission partnerships to bring forward during worship that day. Click here for a list of items. Following the late service, we will eat lunch together and then break into groups to serve by packing holiday gift bags for the students at HG Hill Middle School, creating baskets of essential items for the residents at the Village of Glencliff, creating hygiene packs for UMCOR, creating cleaning kits for the residents at Dream Streets, or sorting collected supplies for our ministry partners.

Dec 13 & 14: Sensory Santa, Saturday and Sunday in the Lounge

This sensory-friendly Santa experience is tailored to kids with sensory integration disorder and other special sensory needs. We use low/natural light, no music, soft Santa voices, and lots of options for how to be in the santa space. Reach out to Pastor Gracie at gracie@bellemeadeumc.org for more details.

Dec 17: Intergenerational Advent Experience, 6 PM in the Fellowship Hall

Join us for games, songs, and general merriment for all ages! Wear your favorite Christmas sweater and be prepared to have fun!
