Wednesday Night Class
Dates: Wednesdays from November 2-16 from 6:00-7:00 in Room 217
Some of the most fascinating and misunderstood books of the Bible are from a kind of writing known as apocalyptic literature, where the writer describes a heavenly vision full of strange creatures, powerful angels, and coded imagery as a way of encouraging God’s people. In this 3-week class, taught by Dr. Brian Sigmon and Dr. Ernest Heard, we will learn together what characterizes apocalyptic literature, what to pay attention to as you read it, and how to interpret the enigmatic, fantastical imagery we find in so much of it. We’ll explore ancient, non-biblical apocalyptic writings that help us understand the genre. And we’ll dive into biblical apocalyptic literature such as Daniel and Revelation to see how the biblical writers used this kind of writing to bring God’s word to God’s people.
Sign up for the class at the front desk, at Wed Dinner, or by emailing Brian Sigmon, bosigman@gmail.com.
